Glenavon School Attendance Summary

  • Recording Attendance – Attendance is marked daily using Ministry of Education codes, with all staff responsible for ensuring accuracy. Data is sent to the Ministry and used for emergency accountability. Absences are recorded as justified or unjustified.
  • Monitoring & Follow-Up – The office staff and Rochelle Lambourn- Assistant Principal and SENCO track attendance and lateness, follows up with parents, and monitors for patterns.
  • Lateness: We have a lateness initiative, which helps students get to class on time. Lateness is monitored weekly, and the data is collated every 2-3 weeks. Year 0-6 students who are coming to school late 10% or more during that time will receive a letter home. If the lateness continues then a referral may be made to Auckland City Education Services. Year 7-8 students who are coming to school late 10% or more during that time will spend a lunchtime with an SLT staff member to reflect on their lateness and make a plan that will help get them to school on time. We believe that teaching our students to be punctual will set them up for their future. If the lateness continues then a referral may be made to Auckland City Education Services.
  • Absences – Parents must notify the school before or during the day, with a reason given by week’s end. By contacting: school office 09 828 7029, Glenavon Office- ClassDojo message or [email protected]
  • The principal can approve up to 5 days of justified absence (e.g. illness, tangihanga, approved events). Planned absences require at least one week’s notice.
  • Missing Students – If a student is absent without explanation or goes missing (including on trips), the school checks records, contacts families, and follows the Missing Student Procedure if needed.
  • Persistent Absences – The school uses data analysis, parent meetings, and targeted support to improve attendance. Chronic cases may be referred to Attendance Services or an appointed attendance officer.
