Philosophy statements
 
We believe:
Ø That children learn through interactions with people, places and things.
Ø That the whanau has a vital part to play in children’s upbringing and in the life of the centre
Ø That our role is to foster the knowledge that children bring “with” them.
Ø That we are here to learn together and extend their learning and ours together.
Ø In the “process” of learning rather than creating a product
Ø That children have rights.
 
 
We want to instill in children:
Ø Confidence
Ø Self esteem
Ø Mana
Ø Knowledge and skills and dispositions (attitudes) for learning
Ø Sensitivity, empathy and a sense of caring towards other people
Ø Respect towards self, others and the environment
Ø Creativity and exploration
Ø The ability to question and think for themselves and find the answers
Ø The ability to be a true ‘researcher’
Ø The ability to negotiate and solve problems and deal with situations themselves
Ø The ability to communicate and contribute in group situations for a variety of purposes
Ø Independence skills
Ø A sense of responsibility for themselves
Ø Enjoyment, fun and the development of a sense of humour.

We believe children learn best:
Ø When children have a choice and are empowered to make decisions and there are adults and teachers who support this process
Ø In an environment where there are well thought out resources, where it is clean and safe and that there are adults who actively engage in their learning, growth and development

Ø When children and families are comfortable with their own culture, identity and sense of belonging.
